Form I-9 Requirements
CURRENT STATUS: You are now registered in our database. But you have additional steps (see below).
VERY IMPORTANT NEXT STEPS (Proof of Eligibility to Work in the U.S.): In the U.S., it is illegal to work as an undocumented worker. Federal law requires all employees show proof that they are authorized to work in the U.S. When you arrive on the set to work as a background actor, the production company will require you to complete a federal I-9 Form which is used to collect proof from you that you are authorized to work in the U.S.
Only certain types of government documents can be used to prove your authorization to work in the U.S. On the I-9 Form, the only types of proof you are allowed to present are listed in Lists A, B and C (scroll down to view chart).
It is your choice what document(s) to present to the production company from List A or from Lists B and C. If you present one of the types of documents listed in List A, then you don’t need to show anything else from List B or C. But if you don’t present one of the documents in List A, then you must present TWO documents -- one document from List B and one document from List C.
YOU MUST PRESENT THE ORIGINAL UNEXPIRED LIST A OR B AND C DOCUMENTS TO THE PRODUCTION COMPANY. IN COMPLIANCE WITH I-9 INSTRUCTIONS, NO PHOTOCOPIES OR DIGITAL COPIES ARE PERMITTED.
You may visit the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services website to view explainations of each document type listed in the chart.
An easy way to determine if you have the acceptable documents to prove you are allowed to work in the U.S. is to use the U.S. government website called myE-Verify, available here: https://www.e-verify.gov/employees/mye-verify. In order to use myE-Verify, you will be asked to create an account and sign in. After answering a few questions, the website will tell you if you are allowed to work in the U.S. or not.
You are not required to use myE-Verify, but it helps make the process much easier. Whatever government documents you use in myE-Verify to establish you are allowed to work in the U.S. should be the same documents you bring to set with you to show to the production company.
REMEMBER, YOU MUST PRESENT THE ORIGINAL UNEXPIRED LIST A OR B AND C DOCUMENTS TO THE PRODUCTION COMPANY. IN COMPLIANCE WITH I-9 INSTRUCTIONS, NO PHOTOCOPIES OR DIGITAL COPIES ARE PERMITTED.
If you arrive on set and are not able to prove to the production company that you are allowed to work in the U.S., then EP Casting Services will have to de-register you from its database and you will not be eligible to be considered by production companies for background actor work on any other future projects.
The official list of acceptable documents is part of the Form I-9 available on the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services website.
