9 Ways to Start 2019 Out Right

Start 2019 as a background performer with Central Casting

Whether you’re about to register with Central Casting or have been a background performer for years, there are always new things to learn about the business so you can be a pro on set. As we begin a new year, here are nine things you can do to start 2019 out right.

1. Make a reservation to register

Want to become a Background Actor and get on set? It’s easier than ever to register as a background performer with Central Casting.

We recently rolled out an online registration process in all of our offices. To register with Central Casting in Los Angeles, New York, Georgia, and Louisiana, you must fill out an online portion of registration then make a reservation to visit your local office. Our article, Introducing Central Casting’s Online Registration Process has everything you need to know about registering with us.

2. Re-Register

Has it been awhile since you registered or came to an Updates session? If so, it may be time for you to re-register. All background perfomers registered with Central Casting must re-register every three years to be eligible to work on our productions. Re-Registration is easy, just come to a Re-Registration & Updates session at your local office.

3. Update

The new year is the perfect time to make sure your file and photo are current. Casting Directors need to know your current look so they can be confident you fit the roles they’re casting. We also need your contact information and address so we can communicate and payroll you correctly. If you need to update your file or photo you can do so during your office’s Re-Registration and Updates sessions.

4. Know how to find jobs

Registered and ready to get on set? Finding jobs is easy through the Jobs page of our website. On this page, you’ll find all the latest roles we’re casting with instructions from Casting Directors on how to submit. Bookmark the Jobs page for quick and easy access to our latest job opportunities.

We know deciphering a job post can be tough, especially if you’re new to industry shorthand. Our article How to Read a Central Casting Job Post steps you through the process so you can submit like a pro.

5. Take new selfies

If you’ve looked through the Jobs page, you’ve probably noticed posts where Casting Directors ask you to send a selfie along with your submission. In some cases, the Casting Director may need a selfie of you taken that day. In others, like when they need to see you in specific wardrobe, the selfie may just need to be recent and reflect your current look.

So if you got new wardrobe over the Holidays or just haven’t taken new selfies in a while, now is the perfect time to do so. Just remember, your selfies should be retaken regularly so they always reflect your current look.

6. Meet Casting Directors at Visiting

During Visiting, background performers have a chance to ask questions and learn from our Casting Directors. You can ask them about what projects they’re working on, learn about the industry, and get advice on how to excel on set. Remember, Visiting isn’t just a chance for you to get to know Casting Directors, but for them to get to know you. If you want to be successful in 2019, taking advantage of opportunities to learn is a great place to start.

You can make a reservation for Visiting by checking your location’s calendar. Like with registration reservations, Visiting reservations only become available so far in advance. If dates are showing up as ”unavailable” they may just not be open yet.

Not seeing any Visiting dates in Georgia or Louisiana? Stay tuned as new sessions can be announced at any time.

While we don’t currently hold Visiting sessions in New York, our articles contain advice and tips from Casting Directors in all of our offices and are a great resource to learn more about the entertainment industry.

7. Reserve your spot for a Central Casting University class

We currently offer two Central Casting University classes, The Professional Background Actor and The Stand-In. These classes give you the opportunity to learn from leading industry professionals and Casting Directors so you’re prepared when you get to set.

Our classes are free for Background Actors who are registered with Central Casting, active, and eligible to submit for work. Keep an eye on your location’s calendar and notices section for new date announcements and instructions on how to make a reservation.

We currently don’t host University classes in New York, but that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on learning from our guest speakers. Check out Assistant Director Luke Maxcy’s Background Acting advice and Assistant Director Michele Azenzer Bear’s Stand-In tips.

8. Stay up-to-date with what we’re working on

A great way to be successful throughout the year is to stay up to date with what we’re working on. Knowing what movies and TV shows you have a chance to work on gives you time to gather wardrobe and build up your different looks. Our credits section is a great place to check out the projects we’re casting.

9. Learn about the industry in our articles

There’s a lot to know about background acting, but being successful goes beyond knowing what to do on set. Our articles not only give you helpful tips on being a background performer, but give insight into the film industry as a whole. They are also a great way to stay up to date with what’s going on at Central Casting. You won’t want to miss the exciting announcements we have coming up this year.
