Booking Minor Background Actors for Your Production

Need to hire minor Background Actors for your production? Central Casting books babies from 15 days old to teenagers 17 years old (the legal minor age range) to work as Background Actors and doubles. In addition to our experienced and dedicated Casting Directors who are ready to cast minors for your scenes, there are additional benefits to hiring minors through Central Casting.
In Los Angeles, New York, Georgia, and Louisiana where Central Casting partners with our productions acting as the co-employer, we handle minor start paperwork, including I-9s, W-4s, state withholding, and age verification. Then we perform E-Verify to confirm employment eligibility, ensuring minor Background Actors are authorized to work in the United States prior to work date and saving your team time at check-in. While Central Casting books babies at least 15 days old, it is production's responsibility to hire a qualified baby nurse. Central Casting is not able to provide or book the baby nurse on production's behalf.
Both California and New York have passed laws requiring that employees, both adults and minors, take training in harassment prevention, retaliation, and reporting. For Background Actors in Los Angeles and New York, we assign and track this state-mandated anti-harassment training. For minors to work in these states, we also confirm that California entertainment work permits and New York child performer permits are current before sending minors to your set with proof of these documents. For productions filming in Georgia and Louisiana, Central Casting completes and obtains minor permits in accordance with local regulations.
We know it can be a hassle to track minor ages on set, which is why SmartVoucher, Central Casting's digital voucher platform, displays a real-time view of all minor Background Actors' actual ages, helping your teams determine how long a minor can work to stay in compliance with local laws.
Whether parents and guardians are brand new to background work or are industry veterans, there's a lot to know about getting their minors booked and accompanying them to set. With our Background Essentials video series and minor-focused articles, we provide parents and guardians with all the information they need to keep their minors eligible to work, get them booked, and have a successful day on set, helping ensure your workday runs smoothly.
